Artist’s Haven Proposed At Burnham Park
Wednesday - March 16, 2005 (GMT+8)

BAGUIO CITY – Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. has proposed the designation of the area between the Children’s Park and the Baguio Orchidarium or any other suitable place within Burnham Park as an “Artist’s Haven.”

Yangot in a proposed resolution said this is in recognition of the fact that the city has served as a home to multi-awarded artists “who had contributed much for the promotion of Baguio City as a venue for local, national and international art competitions."

“It is but proper for the city of Baguio to establish an artist’s haven in recognition and appreciation of our artists and their vast talents and skills,” Yangot noted.

Besides, he added, “the establishment of an artist’s haven at Burnham Park will help boost our city’s tourism industry, since this will serve as an additional attraction to our local and foreign tourists.”

He said the area between the Children’s Park and the Orchidarium is a suitable venue for such purpose.

Yangot’s proposal will be discussed by the city council soon. –Miechelle Joy Domingo
