Balikatan Joins In Celebration Of Women’s Month

BAGUIO CITY – In celebration of Women’s Month this year, various organizations here have joined hands to come up with activities for women and about women. In the weekly Kapihan sa Baguio last Wednedsay, leaders and representatives of women’s groups announced their activities which follow the theme, “Unifying Women For Stronger Nation.”
Former City Vice Mayor and now Chair of the group Balikatan para sa Kaunlaran Atty. Betty Lourdes Tabanda said programs that address the concerns of the women are continuously being implemented even at the barangay level, with the support of the KALIPI, a women’s group at the barangay level. She said at the moment, there are already about 40-50 barangays with established KALIPI.
Among their activities include the awarding of winners in the Search for the best Barangay Women’s Organization and Showcase of Talents. This will be held at the SM Atrium on March 12 at 3:00 pm. Tabanda added that the showcase of talents aims to recognize the ability of women by letting them perform on stage and build their confidence through these kinds of exposure.
Balikatan has also been involved in various programs which aim to promote reproductive health. It has also conducted advocacies on the illnesses that are common to women, researches on menopausal period management, and livelihood programs for women. All these Tabanda said are directed towards empowering women and molding them to be productive citizens of the community by being economically active. –Liezel Bolong - UC-BCF / PIA Intern
