Better Light And Water Services Pushed
by Julie G. Fianza
Wednesday - March 16, 2005 (GMT+8)

BAGUIO CITY- Councilors Leandro Yangot, Jr., Rufino Panagan and Leonardo Bayan, Jr. last week proposed resolutions as to the improvement of basic services such as water and streetlights in the barangays.

Yangot stated in his proposed resolution that the Baguio Water District as the sole franchise holder of water supply should expand services for the 128 barangays of the city, as some residents have drilled their own deep wells. Other unserviced residents order from water delivery companies, Yangot observed. The BWD should expand services “pursuant to its mandate and for the general welfare of the people of the city,” Yangot lamented.

Panagan and Bayan have also filed their proposed resolution for the increase in wattage of streetlights as this would prove to be less expensive. According to the duo, more wattage streetlights would prove to be less expensive as there would be less poles and wires to be installed.

The two filed the resolution after they learned that streetlights are now ready for distribution and installation in the different barangays without expense to the city. The two lauded the move while batting for increased wattage in streetlights, instead of adding more streetlights.

The two have requested the mayor to approve the said move.

Both proposals shall be discussed in forthcoming council sessions.
