Culture, Arts Council Urged To Come Up With Conservation Programs For City
by Aileen P. Refuerzo
Saturday - March 19, 2005 (GMT+8)

BAGUIO CITY – Councilor Pinky Rondez wants the Baguio City Culture and Arts Council to come up with a comprehensive environmental, historical and cultural conservation programs for the city. Chiropractor Midwood

In a resolution, Rondez noted that the city “has all the potentials of becoming a conservation city because of its abundant natural resources and unique cultural and historical background.”

However, she contrasted that the city “is fast becoming a concrete jungle with all the infrastructure projects being implemented. Its natural resources are abused and the cultural practices, which have made the city the country’s summer capital, have been forgotten.”

“There is also an urgent need to have an inventory of all resources for conservation, whether they be of environmental, historical or cultural significance so that any development project that will be undertaken in the city will conform [to] the conservation programs set forth,” Rondez noted.

She said the arts council that was created by virtue of Administrative Order No. 001 series of 2005 can do the job.

“It is imperative [that the city] promote the welfare and interest of the people through conservation programs that will further prevent environmental degradation, and that will preserve the cultural traits Baguio City is known for,” she added.
