BAGUIO CITY A flotilla of 24 decorated boats will vie for honors and handsome cash prizes at the fluvial parade at Burnham Lake in the afternoon of March 26, Saturday, to highlight the first day offering of Kafagway Summerfest 2005.
Veteran newsmen Nars Padilla and Gerry Evangelista, Sr., co-chairmen of the holiday project, said that the activity is a two-day religious, tourism, cultural and sports program to accentuate the Sabado de Gloria and Easter Sunday celebration in the city.
They said that the fluvial parade will feature entries from boat concessionaires, schools, barangays and a number of commercial entities.

Sabado de Gloria activities will kick-off with a grand parade from the top of Session Road at 8:30am, down Magsaysay Avenue and end at Malcolm Square People's Park, where a brief program and ceremonies will be held.

The parade will feature the University of Baguio BIBAK Ubon-Kaafuan cultural ensemble together with Julren Bitot, the Lakambini of Kafagway Summerfest 2005. Also on the spotlight are school children dressed in colorful costumes from the day care centers under the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Baguio Patriotic High School, PHASES Learning Center, St. Vincent Pre-School and mascots from various commercial and non-government organization establishments.

Padilla said that for the first time, a wheelbarrow flower float tilt will be featured in the foot parade, including a fleet of decorated tricycle, go-cart and bicycle contestants. Sharing the spotlight are the Lola Lakambini and escorts from the Federation of Baguio Senior Citizens Association, the Baguio Association of Retired Persons Foundation, Philippine Government Retired Employees Association and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines CAR.
Also included are this year's Baguio Lucky Summer Foreign Visitors and a special flower presentation by Baguio Country Club, the Paintball Republic, Pines Scooters Group, the Philippine Military Academy, Baguio City National High School, UB and Pines City National High School bands and the Baguio Central School drum and lyre corps.
He said that Mayor Braulio Yaranon and Congressman Mauricio Domogan will be the principal guests during the program, while ranking local government officials, including those from the NGOs, have been invited to join the celebration.
Padilla said that on March 27, Easter Sunday, Summerfest 2005 will climax with a re-enactment of Salubong and the Sunrise Easter Sunday Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jose Alipio, Parish Priest of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church. A floating altar at Burnham Lake is being prepared for the religious rites.
The two-day weekend celebration will include a dog show by the Baguio German Shepherd Club, radio car races and demonstration, a motorcycle exhibition and a paintball tournament. All the events will be held at Burnham Park.
He added that should there be inclement weather on March 26 & 27, the activities will automatically be cancelled and scheduled on a later date.
