No Coding For Cars On Holy Week; Summer Activities Kick Off
by Aileen P. Refuerzo
Thursday - March 24, 2005 (GMT+8)

BAGUIO CITY – Owners of private vehicles will enjoy a reprieve from the vehicle number-coding ordinance on Holy Week.

Mayor Braulio Yaranon ordered the suspension of the scheme from March 21-25 for private cars in line with the observance of the Lenten season.

The coding break is based on section 7 of Ordinance No. 1 series of 2003 known as the Baguio City number Coding Scheme Ordinance that allows suspension of the measure “to allow the observance of major official celebrations or similar activities for a limited duration or specific period.”

The coding break will also allow residents and tourists to enjoy the various activities being prepared for the summer as a tribute to the visitors who spend the Holy Week break in the city.

The activities put under the traditional Summer Activities (SUMVAC) will kick off during the Lenten break.

Yaranon had earlier created a committee to spearhead the preparations for the said activities.

Acting City Administrator, City Tourism Officer, and Events Secretariat Head Benedicto Alhambra said various activities—a mishmash of religious, cultural, historical, sports and medical activities—are being prepared under the calendar, and will run until May.
