SK To Hold Youth Congress In April
by Julie G. Fianza
Friday - March 25, 2005 (GMT+8)

BAGUIO CITY – About 500 of the city’s dynamic and energetic youth leaders shall converge on April 18 to 20 at the Baguio Convention Center and go through sessions to produce documents regarding environment, poverty, education, equality, community and health concerns for presentation to Mayor Braulio Yaranon and the city council.

The congress shall revolve around the theme, “Young People Working for the Developmental Goals of Baguio and a Sustainable Community.” All programs shall focus on workable plans conceptualized, and for implementation by the youthful leaders in the city.

This is according to Councilor Leonardo Bayan, Jr. as preparations are going on for the “largest and most inspirational gathering, the first-ever youth congress in the city.”

In addition, the congress shall look into youthful efforts towards the development of the city through local action projects. In short, ideas shall be put into practice, Bayan said. Volunteerism and its value to the city’s programs shall also be one of the focal points, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF) President and city councilor added.

The youth representative to the city council is very optimistic that the output from the forthcoming congress shall be implemented as it embodies the idealism of a young assembly.

International development professionals from both the government and non-government organizations shall be on hand to provide insights on major national policy perspectives during the congress.

Interested youth leaders are enjoined to contact telephone number 442-8922, or inquire at the office of Councilor Bayan at the City Hall.
