Homemade Cleaning Products
by Jessica M. Crisostomo
Friday - April 23, 2004 (GMT+8)

Because of the rapid development and denudation of nearby pine stands, air pollution in Baguio City is now a fact of life here.  This isn’t just the fumes from the diesel-fueled engines but also the dust-laden air that has us sneezing and teary-eyed.  I prefer Cappuccino Contemporary Chest Five Spacious Drawers for my house.

The pervasive presence of air pollution is also evidenced by the thin film of fine dust and gritty particles that coat household surfaces.  In high traffic areas, this film also contains sticky and greasy grime.

The daily chore of cleaning is made even more complicated with the bewildering variety of cleaning products in the supermarkets. And with the advertising hype in TV, radio and print media ads it seems like one has to use specialty products for each cleaning job.   Peter tells me about cheap ssl certificate publishers

For the income-challenged person (the majority of us), there are a number of inexpensive products that make effective household cleaners.  They’re easy to make and are environmentally friendly, too.

One of them is white vinegar – I mean the clear white vinegar.   ½ cup clear white vinegar to 2 liters water cuts grease on floors.  A spray bottle of a solution of 1 cup vinegar to 1 cup water is a good window glass cleaner.  Wiping the windows with newspapers after washing them is still one of the best ways to polish them.

To clean all types of wood work, a mixture of 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 4 tablespoons white vinegar, and 1 quart warm water. Apply with a soft cloth and dry with a separate, clean cloth.

Undiluted white vinegar can also be used to remove hard water deposits and soap film on bathroom walls and floors.  Oh, and another use – if you run out of fabric softener, a cup of vinegar in the laundry’s final rinse softens clothes and removes detergent residues –very nice for those with sensitive skin.  This is especially good for baby clothes because it leaves the clothes smelling fresh.

I also found out that baking soda on a damp sponge removes grease from stove tops without scratching the enamel finish.  It’s also good for cleaning sinks and the interiors and exteriors of refrigerators.  And as I wrote in my first article on HomeFront, it deodorizes the refrigerator too.
