This letter is in response to your article concerning Independence Day. I have a lot of respect to the lawyer who truly speaks the truth about the reality of what happened to our country. Living in my adopted country and looking back at where I came from makes me wonder what kind of life I would have if I wasnt able to cross the Pacific. As sad as it is, I won't be able to resist getting involve in corruption or perhaps even ignoring the human dignity that would satisfy every womans desire for respect and Christian inner satisfaction just to get by or just to survive.
I was just reading the International survey and I was so upset to read that the country of my birth is #2 in corruption and in the top ten list of poverty. That is so sad. We have all kinds of organizations here in the U.S to try and find a way to help and give back to our country. But it gives us second thought if it will even reach the main cause. So how can anybody help the poor without going through the long dark channel of corruption? Or will there be anything left for the needy to get help? Will it ever end or will it ever change for the sake of humanity??
That question will probably be a dream that will never happen. But I believe that maybe when people get together and work side by side to heal the wound and set aside selfishness and greediness, then there is probably a big chance to heal that horrible disease.
We read about how international investors don't even consider Investing in the Philippines because of corruption and reading the news about how high school drop-outs manage to run for the highest office in the country gives me chills.
How cheap are the votes of the people? What does it take to lift up the whole country above water? And most of all what kind of Integrity and Dignity do the people of the Philippines have????? I wish I will live long enough to see that day. Please extend my best regards to Atty. G. Bandonill.
